Where can I find nice, reasonably priced semi-formal dresses?

My school has a "semi-formal" dance towards the end of the year, and I want a great dress. Are there any particular stores with dresses that aren't exactly like prom dresses? I need something less flashy than that. It has to be appropriate. Thanks a bunch!

3. There are really nice dresses for like $30 in Dots. See if there's one near you and check it out.
4. go to a local tj maxx, marshalls, ross store its brand name prices that arent used for cheaper than you would pay somewhere else i got my semi formal dress from ross for $15 and i got lots of complements! also , department stores like macys, dillards, belk usually have lots of great dresses. most of the time they have a great sale selection too!
5. forever 21 has really cute inexpensive dresses. Most are less than $30.
