Night Dresses

Why do women wear evening gowns to go out at night? Shouldn't they be wearing night gowns?

1. Well, the night has to start somewhere, doesn't it? :)
2. considering today's fashion, aren't they pretty much interchangeable?
3. Last time I checked, evening is the night time.

5. If they wore 'night gowns' they'd be asleep. You'd wear the the morning dress until 5pm, but after that it's the evening dress. And then, for night time, you would change into your night gown to sleep.
